[Review] La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo

Hi dearies! Happy September! I'm finally here with the review of Effaclar Duo from a French skincare brand, La Roche-Posay. I'm sure many of you have heard about this product. It claims to reduce imperfections, even up skin tone and unclog pores. Mainly used for acne and sebum control.
It is sold worldwide.

Description from the U.K website:
Pores are unclogged and purified to help reduce the development of future breakouts. Helps to reduce skin imperfections leaving skin looking clearer and feeling smoother.
It doesn't look special, just an average tube and a white but a bit cloudy cream.

The American version contains Micronized Benzoyl Peroxide (I'm not sure about the Asian version) which has been banned from Europe because studied have shown that this ingredient causes cancer.

Ingredient list of the European Effaclar Duo:
AQUA / WATERGLYCERINCYCLOHEXASILOXANEHYDROGENATED POLYISOBUTENENIACINAMIDEISOPROPYL LAUROYL SARCOSINATEAMMONIUM POLYACRYLDIMETHYLTAURAMIDE / AMMONIUM POLYACRYLOYLDIMETHYL TAURATESILICAMETHYL METHACRYLATE CROSSPOLYMERSODIUM HYDROXIDESALICYLIC ACIDNYLON-12ZINC PCALINOLEIC ACIDPENTAERYTHRITYL TETRA-DI-T-BUTYL HYDROXYHYDROCINNAMATECAPRYLOYL GLYCINECAPRYLOYL SALICYLIC ACIDCAPRYLYL GLYCOLPIROCTONE OLAMINEMYRISTYL MYRISTATEPOTASSIUM CETYL PHOSPHATEGLYCERYL STEARATE SEPARFUM / FRAGRANCE

How it worked on me: I use it only in the mornings because I prefer using Mizon's snail recovery gel before I got to sleep. Effaclar duo even ups my skin tone and it has removed the redness from my face. I believe that, is not permament. I'd have to use this product continuously for my skin tone to not be red. It has good sebum and oil control, my face becomes oily after 4-5 hours. I haven't really noticed any change on my pores even though have been using it for months and I'm about to finish up the tube. I really need to moisturize my face before I apply this. I use mal:gem Moist toner/serum from Etude House. It feels like it drains the moisture out of my skin if I don't. I don't have any problems with regular acne but I do get spots and pimples after trying some products, my skin is sensitive to some ingredients. So, I can't really tell if it really prevents acne. However, I have already repurchased it and waiting for my first tube to run out.

I would recommend it to people with combination or oily skin, if your skin is normal to dry you would definitely need a good moisturizer before application.

MY RATING 4/5

Because it a good product, it has reduced my redness and controls my oil but it's not the miracle product many blogger/vloggers are raving about, not at least for me. It doesn't really work as a moisturizer either.

Have you tried Effaclar duo "moisturizer"?

  1. I've tried it and it's not "amazing" as how I would imagine it to be. It helps my breakouts stay under control. I feel inclined to repurchase mine as well because I feel that this product is good for my skin :)

  4. Initially it sounded like everyone loved this product, but with a little more research I've read some pretty 'meh' reviews on it. This stuff is pretty expensive where I live so I might try and pick up a sample before forking out $40. Thanks for the review!
